Holidays are some of the loneliest times for those missing and unable to reach loved ones -- especially when trying to thrive in a new environment.

Box of Hope was one of PSALT’s earliest outreach programs initiated in 2011 to reach North Korean individuals and families throughout the country during the Christmas holiday season.

Your contribution ensures each refugee/family will receive a care package filled with treats, handwritten Christmas cards, and an Amazon e-giftcard.

The due date for Box of Hope 2024 contributions is Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. Please be sure all cards, and donations are sent before that date. Thank you!
"I read the handwritten letters one by one and was so deeply touched that I began to cry. I am so grateful and hope you have a joyful day today!"
"Hello! Thank you for your Christmas gift filled with your love and sincere care. I don’t know if it’s even okay to receive this much love… I thank you, and again thank you so much. You never forget us and always remember to care for us, so once again thank you. I hope you have a Christmas overflowing with blessings!"
"Thank you very much. I’m so grateful to receive these very precious gifts full of love. Your work of conveying God’s love from people who don’t even know us personally is a source of strength beyond measure to those of us who came from North Korea. I’m praying for your continued well-being."

BOH Card Writing.png
  • Cards can be written in Korean or English. Thank you for writing legibly!

  • Cards can be purchased or beautifully handmade. For handmade cards, please use cardstock, not construction paper if possible.

  • All cards should be left unaddressed -- leave out “Dear”, “To” and just write your heartfelt message.

  • Please leave cards unsealed -- envelopes not required!

  • Please do not include dates -- i.e. “Happy New Year!” instead of “Happy New Year in 2035!”

  • Brief, heartfelt personal experiences are okay to share but do not include contact information.

  • Avoid making political statements or hurtful comments about North Korea. Please remember, many still have family or friends in North Korea and long to be reunited someday.

  • Young kids can also participate! Teachers/Parents prepare stickers, templates, or printed messages for kids to use inside cards.

  • Many refugees are Christian or experienced support from Christian communities so feel free to bless and express Jesus' love for them.
